We are pleased to announce that Panterito Foundation is now the official maintainer of OpenTreeFormat, an open and lightweight standard designed to make tree-related data easier to organise, share, and use across different systems.
🌍 What is OpenTreeFormat?
Reforestation projects often collect data in different ways, which makes collaboration and long-term consistency difficult.
OpenTreeFormat provides a simple, shared structure so that tree data can move smoothly between tools, platforms, and organisations.
It is also the foundation for OpenTreeID, where unique IDs are assigned to trees using this standardised format.
🔧 Panterito’s role
As maintainer, Panterito Foundation will:
- support the long-term development of the format
- ensure open and transparent governance
- work with partners to keep the standard practical and widely usable
OpenTreeFormat is open to organisations and experts who want to contribute and help strengthen a shared approach to tree data.
